How Can I Help Denise Provost?

A grassroots campaign like ours takes many volunteers to be successful. Some people can dedicate a lot of their time, others can spare only a little -- but whatever you can offer is welcome.

There are many ways you can help Denise:

• Vote for Denise... And ask everyone you know in Somerville to vote for her too.

  

• Volunteer to work on the campaign. The next municipal election will be in 2005, but it's never to early to sign up! Remember that Aldermen (and women) in Somerville are part-time positions with no administrative support. You can help between elections with some of the following tasks:
  • clip newspaper articles
  • respond to letters and emails
  • take photographs
  • organize events

• Subscribe Somerville at Large and keep up with the current events in your city.

• Put up a yard sign and beautify your neighborhood. Call (617) 628-1130 to have someone put one up.

• Get a bumper sticker for your car.

Volunteering

• Those who like to be in the public eye can join the stand-outs, in Davis Square and other spots around the city, including the T stop during the morning commuter rush.

• Extroverts can join our phone banking team - one of the key elements to making sure everyone who supports Denise places their ballot on election day. Most of the phoning is done from a central location (for example, in a donated office space between Harvard and Central Squares), but some might prefer to phone from home, or to call senior citizens in the afternoons.

• Introverts might enjoy the quieter process of assembling mailings that will go to most of the households in the city. A volunteer can join an organized party, or host a do-it-yourself mailing party: We'll deliver a "mailer kit" which includes all the materials for three people to work one hour. Cookies included.

• "Dear Friend" letters and cards are important signs of support for Denise. Contact the campaign office to help create letters that say why you're supporting Denise, address them to your Somerville friends, and return them to us for mailing! It is that easy.

• Distribute flyers - the tried and true way to reach voters, and good outdoor exercise too.

• Join us on Election Day. We will need lots of people to make phone calls, publicize Denise's campaign, help people get to the polls, or run errands. Be part of the fun!

• Those who cannot get away from work or family obligations can always make a donation to support the activity of the campaign. (See below.)
